THE SUNDAY RIDE

Sunday morning usually means my family goes to church and with the coming of Spring, an important opportunity to ride occurs after church. My family likes to “ride to eat”, so after services we have had some good rides. Some of Tennessee state parks have hotels and great restaurants at s moderate price. The last two weeks Nina, Mark, Katie, and I have ridden to Pickwick Dam State Park and Natchez State Park for dinner. Mark has a new ride, a ’93 ST1100, in which Katie fits nicely on the back. We take the two lane roads there and enjoy the ride both ways. The meal is buffet style and all you can eat. Forty dollars will feed us all with desert. At Natchez we did some additional exploring and discovered a very old Pecan Tree which was planted by the early settlers along the old road. The road has been re-paved and the tree is located in a small park. We passed a team of horses and wagon on the way to find the tree! The tree is still alive, but the hollow center has been filled with concrete to hold it up.
A Sunday ride does not have to be a long ride and we plan to visit some more parks without a restaurant. Reelfoot Lake and Mousetail State Park are on the list. This Sunday we hope to try out the observation run at Mousetail before the Chapter picnic on June 3rd, 4th and 5th. We hope to see many people there at the picnic.
