FROM THE RAMBLIN RIDER

FROM THE RAMBLIN RIDER

Reprinted From The Iowa Chapter “L” Newsletter Written by Mary Fox

Chapter L has had its first official ride.  Gary and Carolyn Williams led a fun and adventurous ride around IL and back home again.  He even managed to create excitement in the bar he took everyone too.  You could say things were dropping like flies around him.  As usual Gary managed to hit all elements of a ride that every one dearly loves.  Let me see, there were a couple turn-a-rounds which as everyone knows makes the ride official.  Then there was the gravel and even rain.  You would naturally expect to have that with The Rain Man (Don Fox) riding along.  Don said he got the best mileage that he has ever gotten on that ride because he was riding without me.   If that was a hint, I didn’t take it.  I wasn’t able to go on the ride because of a hitch in my get along, but I heard nothing but good things.  I was babysitting our 4-month-old grandson and believe me a ride would have been the lesser of two evils.  What everyone says about babies is true, they eat and they fill their diapers.   Oh boy do they fill their diapers.

We had our meeting at Sportsters in Urbane and had a real good turn out.  I never would have thought I would be wearing my heated liner in August.   I even had to turn it on to keep from catching a chill.  Now I know that some of you think I wear it all the time, but not true, just almost all the time.  Really this is a little cold for August. Oh well, I certainly am not complaining.  Every-one seemed to enjoy the dining choice because we plan on having the October 14 meeting there also. We had the back room all to our selves and the waitresses did a good job of getting us served.  The meeting in September will be held at the Southgate Motel in New Hampton on September 11 at around 10:00 AM.   Because of the Davis Rally, many of our members will already be there. We thought we could just have a short meeting before we go on our scheduled ride.  Rick and Donna Wierck will be leading a ride to Lanesbourgh, MN for lunch.

Don’t forget, Joe Lopez will be here Aug. 27 & 28.  Chuck is going to try and get some tables for us at Granite City on Aug. 27 for dinner at 6:00 PM.  Please let Chuck or I know if you plan on being there so we can get seating.  We plan on meeting at the 380 rest stop Saturday morning August 28 to go to the Colony Inn at the Amanas.  We will leave at 8:15 AM from the rest stop.  If you plan on joining us for breakfast please let us know so we can make reservations.  This will be a good time to hear a little bit more about the organization or just sit around and shoot the breeze about riding.  We are usually pretty good about bragging about the best ride that we have had.
