LET’S DO SOMETHING NICE

LET’S DO SOMETHING NICE

Here’s a question for you.  Did you ever just stop what you are doing, put away all your personal problems and think about how you could do something nice for someone?  You convince yourself that you’d like to but then you think of what you could do, whom could you do it for and how would you go about doing it.  A hundred thoughts come into your mind.  Can I do something by myself or will I need help?  Will people help me?  What can we do?  Will people like our idea and if we have an event will anybody come?

Well it came to the attention of some members of Chapter B that a former member had severe medical problems with astronomical medical bills.  As we all know, insurance does not cover everything, so there were a lot of out-of-pocket expenses.  The ladies name is Susie McNabb.  Chapter B members, former members, family and friends got together and had a meeting to see what they could do for Susie.

It was decided that a benefit dance would be held, door prizes would be solicited from local businesses, a fifty-fifty drawing and a Chinese auction would be held and all money collected would be donated to Susie.

So now all the preliminaries were ironed out.  The next step was to make all the ideas become a reality.  The date was set.  The dance was to be held on Jan 17th at Meadowbrook Country Club in Reading, PA starting at 6 p.m.  Food would be served, door prizes awarded and music from 7 to 10.

Now everything was in place.  All that Chapter B and friends had to do was to get people to buy tickets and walk in the door.  Well they did that and a lot more.  To make a long story short, would you believe there was over $3100.00 collected for Susie and about 160 friends, family and Chapter B members were in attendance.  Many of the people hadn’t seen each other for years and renewed their friendships.  Everyone had a memorable evening.

There were too many folks who were involved in this undertaking to name them all.  So for fear of missing someone, I’ll just tell you that when a caring and determined group of people get together and decide to do something nice for someone, it can be done and it turned out just picture perfect.

Susie was very grateful and didn’t realize she had so many caring friends and family.  There were a lot of emotional tears shed because everything worked out so well.

So the next time you think you’d like to do something nice for someone do what Chapter B did.  Take the bull by the horns and tell yourself I can do it.
