WEST VIRGINIA RIDE

The Mentzer’s planned a weekender to explore West Virginia, and since this is Ken’s and my favorite place, we asked to tag along. Ron wanted to leave early Friday morning; we were supposed to be at their house at 7am. We woke up to snow, and when we were getting off route 30 there was a snowplow ahead to clear the way to Ron’s house. Being strong willed as Ron is, he wasn’t going to let that snow intimidate him. Ken and Lola (GPS) hopped in the front seat and Gloria and myself were in the back seat. Lola tried to help Ron find his way. But he treated her just like he treats Gloria, he went the way he wanted to. He got us there safe and sound, only it was his way and not Lola’s. The only thing was I could not see a thing out of the windows from driving in bad weather. I wasn’t complaining, just sharing, but after a potty stop, I did get a peep hole cleaned. When we arrived at the Resort we noticed that off of the lobby was a pool and 3 hot tubs. O Poooo, no one brought a suit along. We finished out the day with dinner and hit the sheets.
Saturday we set out to explore some country we had never seen before. We saw a lot of beautiful countryside and some of Ken’s homestead want-a-be (not in my life time). The neatest scene of all was when we were on this back road and saw a deer, down in the field, and we sat there watching it. All of a sudden she decides to take off and she came running toward us and jumped the fence, clears that like it wasn’t even there. We all were so intent watching her that we didn’t see the yearling who followed her up to the fence and stopped as if to say “mom I can’t do this.” We then watched mom, in the woods, go down until she found a hole in the fence and it was just like she told the little one how to get over to her, and the little one crawled under and off they went. After exploring we went back to the resort, at the top of the mountain. We, checked out some shops and then found ourselves standing in the middle of the ski slope, watching people and being snow board want-a-be’s. Then we saw snowmobile’s that you could rent, which looked like fun, but we didn’t have warm clothing along. I guess you could say we just were not prepared for anything. We ate dinner, went down to the lodge, played cards and hit the sheets.
The next morning arrived and it was time to leave. Shortly after getting on the road we ran into snow. In about 1 hour we stopped for gas. In the station they said it’s getting pretty bad over the mountain. We then stopped for breakfast and Ron took the map along to see if he could avoid the mountain. No, he had to go over the mountain to get home. He put it in 4-wheel drive and up that winding, blinding, snowy mountain we went. He did a fantastic job in getting us home safe. We both really enjoyed the weekend, you guys made it very easy for us. THANKS for letting us tag along.
