LETTING GO (Part 2)

LETTING GO (Part 2)

Sometimes when you let your children go, they fall on their butt.  Mark, Nina, and I were out riding with Beth, helping her develop skills on her bike.  We let Beth now ride in front, so that she would make some of her own decisions while riding.  The ride had been safe and enjoyable and we were all headed home with Mark leading.  He chose a familiar back road to him, but not to Beth.  She came to a dangerous, blind, off-camber, and well-marked turn, and didn’t slow down enough.  It surprised her and she slammed on the brakes.  She fought the motorcycle with smoke pouring out the back tire.  When the tire gained traction, she high-sided and was thrown off the motorcycle.

We called the ambulance since her neck was hurting, but she only had bruises.  Her riding gear had helped avoid road rash and other injuries.

As parents who witnessed the whole scene, we feel she needs a lot more practice and that she should complete the Motorcycle Safety Course, again.

An interesting observation.  Beth, who works at the hospital where the ambulance was going, called in to alert the staff of her arrival while laying on the ground with her cell phone.  Although in pain, she was already laughing about it.
