May was a great month for riding (well, most of it).  The Pugh’s led us on a ride to Harper’s Ferry on May 23.  It was an extremely hot day for May – more like August weather – but 9 cycles, 3 trikes, 1 van, and 22 people (I think I got the count right) headed off for Harper’s Ferry after a breakfast at the Bob Evans’ in Harrisburg.  Then we were off on a Scavenger Hunt – finding answers to questions that even the people who work there didn’t know the answers too!  It was hot but it was fun – and educational!  Everyone especially appreciated the beautiful ride home on Rt. 17 in Maryland.  We made a stop for dinner in Gettysburg and it was the end of a great day.  Thanks Denny and Betty Pugh for all the effort you put into it!

The Yohn’s and the Myers’ headed off to the Pennsylvania Laurel Highlands area for a Memorial Day weekend camping trip.  They were joined by Clyde and Geanne’s friend Russ, and enjoyed two absolutely gorgeous days of riding.  Ken and Gerry Geib had planned to join us but both were sick … Gerry sent along fabulous potatoes for breakfast and cookies that got munched on all weekend.  Saturday was spent riding on the south side of the turnpike around the Ohiopyle area.  Sunday was a very educational trip to the Johnstown Flood Museum and National Park.  It was a little disheartening to wake up to the sound of rain on our tents Monday morning but, oh well!!!  Nothing like a little rain on the turnpike with bumper to bumper holiday traffic and solid rain.  We weren’t the only ones out there though – lots of cycles heading home from the long weekend.  Of course, the rain had all but stopped until we rode in the driveway … Set the tent up in the garage and had raingear hanging from all the rafters in the basement to dry.  All packed up now and ready for the next trip!
