NORTH AMERICAN K9 POLICE TRIATHLON

After the September meeting we joined Ken & Gerry Geib on a trek to the turnpike. There we met their son, fellow AGWA member and K9 police officer, Ed Geib. Ed took the lead to the K9 Police Triathlon.
We arrived outside of Carlisle, PA to watch the competition. I should note that none of us saw the entire competition. To do this I would have had to trade my Gold Wing in on a dirt bike, canoe, or forklift, depending on the part being followed at the time. The competitors (officer and K9 partner) had to run several miles on uneven and tough terrain, forge a stream through the tile under the road, jog some more, fire their weapon, carry their K9 partner 30 yards, pass through an obstacle course, drag a 200+ pound bag around, and then command their K9 partner in an “eat the bad guy” demonstration.
I think all in attendance came there with an appreciation for these officers, but left with a much greater respect for their selfless devotion and dedication. We thank these officers for letting us share their world for an afternoon and for what they do daily.
