GROUP RIDES

When riding in a large group we do not have control of the road.  We are by law individual motorcyclists who happen to be on the same road.  There are no laws giving large groups special rights or privileges unless they obtain a parade permit.  The law states it’s entirely legal for other vehicles to move in and out of the group, it also states that each rider is subject to all traffic laws.  Example!  If you are the tenth rider and 9 make it thru a light, this does not give you the right to run the light or to exceed the speed limit to catch up to the group, or for the bikes lagging behind to speed up to close up the gap in the group.  If you get a large number of riders it is better to split the group into smaller more manageable groups, especially on two lane roads.  When in a group please don’t be afraid to tell your group captains you are not comfortable with certain situations so these matters can be rectified so everyone has a safe and enjoyable ride.
